Recruit & support

Add accounting capacity without adding another layer of outsourcing

There is a meaningful difference between outsourcing accounting work and adding an offshore accountant to your team. With a dedicated team member, your firm keeps control of the workflow. You decide what they handle, which systems they use, how work is reviewed and who they report to.

Shaz & Co. focuses on the people side of that arrangement. We recruit around your requirements, screen candidates before you meet them and support the ongoing workforce relationship after they start.

Role Scope
Built Around Your Firm
02 / SCOPE

What can an offshore accounting team handle?

The right scope depends on the person’s experience and your review structure. Common responsibilities include transaction coding, bank and credit card reconciliations, AP and AR, bookkeeping cleanup, month-end support, schedules, management reporting support, payroll-related administration and client accounting work.

For firms with more complex requirements, the role can be built around specific software, industries, reporting routines or review responsibilities. We do not assume that every accountant can do every accounting task. The scope should match the candidate’s demonstrated experience.

Demonstrated work

Knowing that someone has used QuickBooks or Xero tells you very little by itself. We want to know what they actually did in the system. Did they reconcile accounts? Clean up books? Manage month-end? Work across dozens of client files? Prepare schedules for review? The same principle applies to tax, practice management and reporting software.

When software experience is important, tell us which platforms are essential and which can be learned after joining. That gives us a much better search brief than simply matching keywords on a resume.

How we screen accounting candidates

We start with the work, not the title. A candidate can have five years of experience and still be wrong for your firm if those five years were spent doing work that has little overlap with yours.

Accounting candidate interview and screening

Clear explanations

Work, systems & communication

Screening can consider:

01

Relevant accounting experience and the type of businesses or firms previously supported

02

Hands-on exposure to the systems you use

03

Ability to explain prior work clearly rather than repeat accounting terminology

04

Written and spoken communication

05

Availability for the working hours you require

06

Stability, notice period and realistic start date

07

Role-specific practical or technical assessment where appropriate

Where your firm still owns the process

Your offshore accountant is not a substitute for your firm’s professional judgment, review obligations or client responsibility. You decide the approval structure, access level and work that can be performed independently. For regulated, tax or attest work, your firm should define the appropriate supervision and sign-off requirements for its jurisdiction and engagement.

A better way to start

Do not begin by moving every process offshore. Pick a role with enough recurring work to justify a dedicated person. Document the first set of responsibilities, define who reviews the work and give the new team member a clear route for questions. Once that workflow is stable, expand the scope deliberately.
